Cumberland-- Triple COA

 

BARNES VARIETY CUMBERLAND - 2 7/16" long x 15/16" wide and from the Midwest most likely Northwest Ohio or Michigan.

It is a Paleo artifact dating to the 10,500 B.P. range.

Made of gray chert that appears to be patinated Hornstone.

Deep flute on one side that runs the length of the point. Shallow, smaller flute on reverse. Good size, thin and very well made. Slight, ancient nick to one ear.

This point has been in the Ford Johnson, Jeff James and John Baldwin collections.

Dwain Rogers, Jackson Galleries and Tom Davis COAs.

Dwain types it as a Folsom. Jackson and Davis type it as a Cumberland.

Folsom

FOLSOM - 1 3/8" long x 15/16" wide and from Bent County, CO.

Made of caramel colored Chalcedony. Semi-translucent and very thin. Fluted to tip on one side.

The dark color is an inclusion in the material. Both ears are dinged.

Cute little affordable Folsom.

Simpson -- Davis COA

SIMPSON - 2 3/8" long x 1 3/16" wide and from Stokes County, NC.

Yes, you read it right. This Simpson "Bull Tongue form" is from North Carolina. Stokes County borders the Virginia state line to the north. It is extremely rare to find this gulf coast point type so far north.

Made of tan Rhyolite which is a nicer grade of material than the Rhyolite found in the more Northeastern states.

Nice patina, excellent workmanship, symmetry and thin. Good size with heavily ground base and sides.

Beautiful Paleo piece that Davis graded a 10.

Folsom - Triple COA

 

 

 

This FOLSOM is 1 1/4" long x 7/8" wide and from Chaves County, NM.

Made of maroon Jasper. Fluted nearly to tip on both sides.

Tip is anciently resharpened and base is ground. Amazing work on a hard material. Pictures don't do it justice!

Tom Davis graded it a 9. Also includes Dwain Rogers and Joe Vandiver COAs.

Ex-Van Heukelom, Vandiver collections.

Quad -- Jackson COA

This QUAD is 2 9/16" long x 1 5/16" wide and from Logan County KY.

It is made of Crab Orchard flint.

 HUGE example of a Paleo point type. Very thin at less than 1/4". Beautiful material and well made. Super quad with no damage. The nicest and largest we've had. The pictures don't show how nice the material is.

Dalton

This DALTON is 2 3/4" long x 1 1/8" wide and from Stewart County, TN.

Tan with a little gray. Big, thin, nicely made, ground base. Sharp edges, minor tip nick.

This DALTON is 2 7/8" long x 1 3/16" wide and from McCurtain County, OK.

It is made of gray/tan Boone chert with a few white spots.

Large size, nice flaking, good symmetry.

Very thin with ground base and sides.

It is made of Kay County chert and light pink in color.

This GOLONDRINA is 2 1/4" long x 1" wide and from Clay County, AR.

It is made of gray hornstone, is nicely flaked and has a ground base and sides.
